WHAT TO WEAR

It’s always a good idea to respect the local culture and obey the laws. The emirate of Dubai is no different, especially concerning the way people dress.

According to the official website of the UAE Government, visitors are expected to dress modestly in public places such as shopping malls and places of religious worship such as mosques.

Some of the important points to keep in mind about the dress code in Dubai for men and women are as follows:

* Make sure that clothing does not indecently expose parts of the body, display offensive images/slogans or be transparent

* Please bear in mind that nudity is strictly not allowed, which also includes topless sunbathing

* Swimwear can be worn when visiting swimming pool facilities, beaches, and water parks, however, is not allowed in other public places

* Female travelers are not expected to wear the traditional abaya or cover their hair in usual public places. However, women will be asked to wear abayas and cover their heads when visiting mosques, out of respect for Islamic tradition. Often, mosques in Dubai will stock these for female visitors who might not have come prepared. Men are also expected to dress appropriately when visiting a mosque

* Visitors, both men, and women are encouraged to wear clothing that covers their shoulders, arms, and legs
